Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the calcium come from?
Calcium staining can come from a variety of sources:
- It can bleed through the grout from the underlying surface, making the calcium appear between the grout lines. These areas can be cleaned, but unfortunately the reoccurrence can’t be stopped. These areas will require periodic treatment to keep these areas clean.
- It can accumulate if the PH level of the pool water is too high for a period of time, causing a white line to be present at the waterline. The waterline can be cleaned and can be controlled with proper PH balance.
- Due to the nature of Phoenix's naturally hard water, it's inevitable that calcium build up will occur on swimming pool tiles, and other pool surfaces that will lead to them needing to be cleaned periodically.
Does my pool need to be drained before cleaning the tile or Pebble Tec?
No. In order to gain access to the staining, we will lower the water 6-8 inches below the area to be cleaned.
Does someone need to be home during my service?
No. We will only need access to your pool, a source of power, and a water source, but no one needs to be home during the service.
When will I be able to use my pool again?
You will be able to use your pool immediately after our cleaning process is completed since we don’t use harsh chemicals that are hazardous to your health. However, depending on the media required for your surface composition, the pool may appear cloudy at first until the water is filtered through your cleaning system. Your pool should be back to a clear state within 24-36 hours.
Does Elite Pool Tile Cleaning, L.L.C. seal pool tile?
No! Ceramic and porcelain pool tiles are manufactured with a clear glaze to protect the tile from the elements. Many companies blast the tile improperly and destroy the glaze. Sealer is then applied on the blasted surface to cover up the damage. Once applied, the sealer will yellow or discolor over time due to the UV rays in the sun light. At Elite Pool Tile Cleaning, L.L.C., we use the correct media for your surface
composition and do not damage the tile. Therefore, the application of sealant is not needed.
How long will my pool tile or Pebble Tec stay clean after my service?
There is no set time for every pool. Depending on the water chemistry, most pools won’t need another service for two to four years. After your calcium removal service, the best way to reduce calcium build up is to correctly maintain your pool chemicals. We recommend you test your water to make sure the calcium levels are between 200ppm and 400 ppm. If the calcium levels are too high, we recommend draining of the pool halfway.
How much does pool tile cleaning cost?
In general, an average size pool with average staining ranges from $350 – $450. By answering a few simple questions and providing some photos, we can provide a free estimate over the phone. Give us a call today at (480) 818.7235.
How often should my pool be drained and acid washed?
With the hard water, extreme summer temperatures and high summer pool evaporation in Arizona, we recommend draining and acid washing your pool every two to four years. This will help remove excess calcium, algae and other minerals that may lead to staining on the pool surfaces and the white build-up at your water line, spillways and water features.
How does pool draining and acid wash work?
Over time, the water in your pool becomes saturated with hard water minerals that can lead to interior pool surface staining. Acid washing removes those harmful contaminants, along with algae and dirt, by applying an acid cleaning solution designed to brighten and sanitize your pool interior while removing most surface staining. This is a great economical solution to renew your pool!
